Anyone who currently lives in the Union Road Fire District needs to cal their insurance company and advise them of our ISO ratings change. Our rating has dropped from a 5/9E to a 4/9E. This could save you a lot of money! If they have any questions please have them contact the fire department.
I want to thank everyone who helped with our ISO inspection. We were trying to achieve an ISO class 5/9 but in true Union Road VFD fashion we did better than we were hoping for. All of these guys has put in a lot of time and effort in to this achievement. They have proven they have what it takes to be a good firefighter and a great addition to Union Road VFD. Union Road is pleased to announce it has placed an order for a new engine to replace the aging 511, the old 511 has been a great truck and continues to out preform most trucks it's age, but in looking into the future of fire protection for our district the department felt a new apparatus was needed that can better assist in providing the best possible fire protection to our residents. Its that time of year once again to go out to schools, day cares and Churches to talk about Fire Prevention. That's right Fire Prevention week is upon us, coming up October 6th-12th 2013. Members of the Union Road VFD will once again be going out to some of our local schools and other venues to talk with students and adults as well about Preventing Fires in your house and work place. A live burn will be conducted on May 18th. We will meet at the station at 4 pm to get started and will have dinner about 5 pm. The first fire should be about 7 pm. There will be a pre-burn safety meeting on May 16th at 7 pm at the station. There is also a sign up sheet at the station for all that plan on attending. The Ladies Auxiliary hosted the department's 5th Tuesday Night Cookout on April 30th, at the station. They also surprised the chief with an "you're older than dirt" birthday party for his 40th birthday. The chief was very surprised and feels that revenge is a dish best served cold. He also thanks everyone that came out or supported the cookout and party.
The Union Road VFD Ladies Auxiliary participated in this year's Relay for Life at Forestview High School. The ladies provided baked goods to raise money for cancer research. The ladies did an awesome job at raising over $216 for the Relay for Life. Although the auxiliary was just started they have hit the ground running.
