Wednesday, October 13th, 2021
Today members made a visit to Covenant Community Preschool to continue teaching the kids of our district about fire safety. Our members are dedicated to making sure everybody knows the dangers of fire and how to safely respond in the event of a fire. Remember to have an escape plan for your household. If you don't have one we strongly encourage you to come up with one and practice it with your kids.

As the summer months start to set in and the temperatures begin to rise, don't forget to stay hydrated. During the summer we tend to see a rise in heat related illness due to the constant rising temperatures.

As winter time approaches some homeowner's may use several methods to keep warm. Remember to have your chimney inspected and cleaned before use. Over time chimneys may develop cracks and have a build up of creosate which can lead to chimney fires.

Today Union Road firefighters took the opportunity to go to The Flock Daycare to teach some kids about fire safety. Some kids may be too young to understand what fire safety is but who doesn't love a big red truck and some cool stickers.

Another year has passed by and its once again time for your local fire departments to get out and teach kids about fire prevention and safety. This month members of Union Road will be going out to local daycares, churches and schools to teach kids about fire safety and the dangers of fire.

Anyone who currently lives in the Union Road Fire District needs to cal their insurance company and advise them of our ISO ratings change. Our rating has dropped from a 5/9E to a 4/9E. This could save you a lot of money! If they have any questions please have them contact the fire department.

I want to thank everyone who helped with our ISO inspection. We were trying to achieve an ISO class 5/9 but in true Union Road VFD fashion we did better than we were hoping for. Around 9:30 Friday morning the new Engine 511 was delivered to the station. As of right now the truck is not in service but will be in the next few weeks.

Today we bid farewell to the the old 511. It is on its way to its new home at a fire department in Georgia. this is the final step in receiving the new 511 which is due to be delivered any day now.

The Chiefs are on a short vacation to Marion Body Works in Wisconsin this week to perform the final inspection of the new Engine 511 before the station takes delivery. Chief Field sent some pictures to give everyone a preview before the new rig arrives in the next few weeks.

Several of our members recieved there Wildland Firefighting S-130 S-190 certifications in September. Congrats to all whole were certified and great job on all your hard work. Special Thanks goes out to the Instructor Henry Kunzig.
